Italy

July 2001

Italy was one of the better trips we have taken.
We decided on Globus for our touring company,
and found that it was a good choice.
We flew to Rome from Boston with a change of planes
in London. It was a long but pleasant trip.
We arrived at about noon and the schedule was to meet our tour
guide at 5pm in the lobby.
We were advised not to take a nap because the time
change would lead us to do just that, and if we did, it would mess
with our biological clock and we would find ourselves wide awake
at midnight, Italian midnight....which is 6am Boston time, the next day.

So instead of giving into that temptation, we opted to take a walk
around Rome, or at least the immediate vicinity of the Hotel.
Our walk ended up to be the better part of two miles, one way, and we
ended up at the Spanish Steps. We climbed to the top step,
sat down and soaked in the lovely view.

Hundreds of people milling about.
Artists, lovers, workers, small and large vehicles woven among single
horse drawn carriages. Balconys with dozens of potted flowering
plants and small trees on each floor. Music coming from some unknown
open window.

Were we on a movie set?
Was this for real?
Yes it was...

We were in Italy!!

And from that moment on, we knew this was going to be a special trip.

We visited Rome, Florence, Piza, Venice, Assisi
and a few small villages along the way...
Each one more romantic than the other.
By the way. Romantic?
It is dirived from two words
Rome and Antique

Now on to Rome
